Sandakphu is the highest point in West Bengal and one of the few places in the world where you can see four of the five highest peaks on Earth - Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu - in a single frame at sunrise. The trail passes through rhododendron forests and quaint Nepali-influenced villages along the Singalila ridge.

Based in Sikkim, this moderate 6-day trek is best attempted during October, November, April, May — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

Day-wise Itinerary

An early start from New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri, driving up through tea gardens and pine forests of the Darjeeling foothills via Manebhanjan to the roadhead at Sepi (roughly 4-5 hours). From here the trek begins with a gentle 10-11 km climb through rhododendron and oak forest inside Singalila National Park, gaining about 2,500 ft in altitude. By late afternoon you'll reach Tumling, a tiny ridge-top hamlet straddling the India-Nepal border, where clear evenings offer the first glimpse of Kanchenjunga glowing pink at sunset.
