Badami Caves Trek

4.5 (112 reviews)

Overview

Badami, once the capital of the early Chalukya dynasty, is carved into a dramatic gorge of red sandstone cliffs overlooking the Agastya Lake. The trek climbs past four rock-cut cave temples, each carved directly into the cliff face and dedicated to different deities, before continuing up to the ruined Badami Fort for panoramic views over the town and lake. The same sandstone cliffs that house the caves are also a well-known rock climbing destination, giving the walk a striking backdrop of climbers on the rock faces above.

Based in Karnataka, this easy 1-day trek is best attempted during October, November, December, January, February, March β€” when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.
