Hampi Heritage Trek

4.7 (189 reviews)

Overview

Hampi, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, is a sprawling UNESCO World Heritage Site set among giant granite boulders on the banks of the Tungabhadra river. Beyond the well-known temple complexes, the trek covers lesser-visited ruins, boulder-hopping trails, and sunrise or sunset views from atop Matanga Hill and Hemakuta Hill. Hampi is also one of the world's premier bouldering destinations, and the same rock formations that draw climbers make for a striking, otherworldly landscape to walk through.

Based in Karnataka, this moderate 2-day trek is best attempted during October, November, December, January, February β€” when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.
